WHAT MAKES US TICK

We both have a passion for growing food and food sovereignty. There’s something addictive about nurturing a seed until it reaches the market, with all the nitty gritty processes in between. We’ve chosen this occupation to earn a living and build a successful and sustainable business. We also want to inspire future generations to see that small-scale farming isn’t just a business, yet a profitable, stimulating and dynamic career path and lifestyle.

On top of this we reckon:

  • any land we cultivate was and always will be Aboriginal land;

  • all humans have the right to access nutrient dense, real food at an affordable yet fair price - both for the farmers and customers (food sovereignty);

  • this farming format is a political statement against industrial food system and its methods;

  • it’s a practical reaction to the current climate crisis;

  • children deserve access to authentic and adequate food education at all levels of schooling;

  • small farms are essential in building thriving communities, food security and local economies;

  • food that is grown ethically by people who give a shit just tastes better. True fact.

What’s Food Sovereignty?

Food sovereignty is defined as the right of peoples to have healthy and culturally appropriate food produced through ecologically sound and sustainable methods, and the right to define our own food and agriculture systems. This idea of food sovereignty, gives communities the power to dictate where their food comes from by building and supporting a ‘local demand’ so to speak.

This demand amongst the greater community for locally and ethically grown food, builds a supportive foundation for farmers to produce their product knowing it will be purchased and appreciated.

It’s a cyclical system, incorporating a wide array of political and ecological factors that results in community collaborating with small-scale producers to establish a resilient and reliable food system that isn’t dependent on massive corporations.
